Getting Hooked Up in a Cube puzzle

This thing has been "in" here in our school since early February. At first I really don't like it coz it looks very tough to solve it. I can't even solve a face of it. My friend Alfred taught me to solve it, at first I can't get what he was teaching me. Day after day I just strive so I can learn the basic that my friend has taught me, after learning it I was unaware I am already hooked in this Rubiks's Cube thing and not just me but my other friends in my section.
At that time that cube was just starting to become a hit, only five of us in our row in our classroom were those who could solve the cube. We, the five of us and including Kim which is in the other row, had a simple competition, championship-like mini tourney of cube solving while in a recess break or when our teacher in that time was not there, and ohh I remember I didn't even win a single thing in that competition. Alfred and my other friend Lawrence, those two always get to match in the final round and Lawrence which was the fastest in our row always win the championship. At that time I was not that fast in solving cube like I was finishing more than two minutes compared to Lawrence which finishes less than two minutes. But when the school year has ended I decided to step up the clutch and go advance in solving using the Jessica Fridrich Method and master it so that I could beat Lawrence in speedcubing. When I was telling lawrence and Alfred about this method they said this method will not make any faster.
I started learning the method. Before my average using the basic they taught me is more than two minutes. When I started learning and memorizing the moves or algorithms I saw big improvements, I averaged about one and a half minutes. I strived to improve more in this method and now I average in about less than 50 secs.
The good thing about this cube is not about solving it faast but the bond that it has made to my friends in school.
